Research and Development

Buro Trinius bases its consultancy services on a solid R&D background. Consequently, we aim to have a constant and solid representation in ongoing R&D projects. The involvement in research, development, innovation, standardization and consultancy generates the knowledge base Buro Trinius aims to apply to the best benefit of our clients.

Thematically, the R&D projects in which Buro Trinius participates are in the field of life cycle performance and sustainability applied to the products and services of the building and construction sector.

Buro Trinius is a member organization of CIB (International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction) and Dr. Trinius is co-chair of the commission W80 on "prediction of service life of building materials and components". W80 is chaired together with Dr. Julien Hans of CSTB (France) and Prof. Bruno Daniotti of Politecnico di Milano (Italy).

Highlights of R&D projects

IRCOW - "Innovative strategies for high-grade material recovery from construction and demolition waste".
This R&D project has the main goal to develop and validate upgraded technological solutions to achieve an efficient material recovery from C&D waste by considering a life cycle perspective. IRCOW started on Jan 17, 2011 as an EU project under the 7th framework programme. Buro Trinius participates in tasks related to life cycle assessment and ecodesign, and is to establish ecodesign guidance based on the project outcome.

Stand-Inn - "Integration of performance based building standards into business processes using IFC standards to enhance innovation and sustainable development".
This project concluded in 2008 and was awarded as nest Europe-INNOVA network 2008. Buro Trinius was a project partner and leader a work package bringing the sustainable buidling concepts and experience to the network. >>>

ECOPADEV - "Development of decision making tools for local authorities, promoting sustainable development on the basis of eco-industrial park strategies."
This project concluded in 2004 and was conducted under the 5th EU framework programme. Buro Trinius worked, together with ECN, on the subject of sustainable building. >>>
